I have a truck down on the side of the road. bought fuel drove 1/2 mile, truck now will barely run!

Water in fuel I suppose.....

Was told I can take off return line, crank engine to cycle lift pump, and push water out of system... .

2001 VP44 pump on a High Output six speed

Truck is 300 miles away.....

did not fill it with gas.

Cracked the line and cycled the lift pump, It ran 7 miles and quit, twice... .

Now it wont start again... .

Do i tell him to get a motel and take it to the Dodge Dealership... . (the real experts... ... ... )

I am suprised you have not had more responses to this. I am no expert at the 2nd gens at all. Maybe it is the fuel/lift pump. Can your man hear it cycle when he turns the key on?

He says he can not "see" water coming out, but when he crackes the line and lets fuel flush out, it will then start and run.

He now has gotten a motel, filled the tank with three bottles of water dry.

The lift pump is a 2 month old new "inline style" pump that the fuel passes through. Fuel filter changed then also...

If it were a 12 valve, it would be running right now, but i dont even know of a water drain the 24 valve filter... .

I am thinking the sock filter? I just wanted to know if getting a slug of water in the VP44 was death... .

It goes to the experts at the Dodge Dealership where he is stranded in the morning. I was hoping for a little more help from the forum...

So... .

2001 6 speed manual HO bought 2 years ago
Bought this truck with 150,000 miles, $16,000. 00
Rebuilt engine at 190,000 $9485. 00
Rework 6 speed manual with new clutch at 250,000 $2978. 00 (last week)

Bought a 1997 with a Automatic, with 157,000 miles for $8300. 00 3 years ago
Put ball joints on it at 220,000 miles $150. 00
Brakes and a couple of trans fluid changes over the past 140,000 miles...
Now close to 300,000 miles, orginal everything... .

I think i will get another 12 valve... .

loosen the banjo bolt on the vp44 and see if you get a good flow out of it when you turn the key on. all vp44 's need a gauge hooked up here i will bet alge over water with a cloged filter you will get his symptoms

On the fuel filter/water separator, there is a lift valve/tab you can lift up on to let out the water. 1st thing, when a truck starts to act up, change the fuel filter.

If you do have an algae buildup, you will need an additive to kill it. You can get this stuff from any good truck stop, as fuel will start to grow this stuff after about 1 month (even quicker in ULSD).

You probably got bad fuel, and now Dodge will mess with it and possibly break something else, or at least tell you that a new VP44 is needed, and maybe some new spark plugs, cap, wires, etc...

Seems to me he is getting air into the system if it starts after he cracks a line. Cracking line won't let water run out(seperate from fuel) but it will let air out.
