At 71.5 years old. New truck came from dealer 3/4 full on the gauge. After 2550 miles it made it to a 1/4 tank. Went by a truck stop. Pretty nice installation rather new. Heated nozzle. Use you credit card $5.00 a gallon it took 4 gallons Bought 20 gallons of diesel $5 .02 a gallon life is good. Not cheap to drive a diesel but the power is worth it. So the def tank must hold 5 gallons. When does it go into limp mode?

It will give you a count down warning starting at 200 miles until 5 mph. No need to fill before the counter starts except you don't want to worry about it while on a trip.

$5/gal for DEF is a bit steep. Costco and Sams has Peak 2.5 gal boxes for just under $12 here in Phoenix. Super Tech at Walmart use to be cheaper but they have raised the prices higher than Peak at Sams/Costco.

And you get a full tank. Not bad to use the pump, I was just pointing out the price was a bit higher than I would have expected. Pilot/Flying J in Phoenix area is $3.86-$4.00/gal.

i advise staying above 1/4 tank. At 1/2 you can add a 2.5 box.

It’s a 5.7 gallon tank on your ‘22.

I run my 18 down as low as possible before filling it. Sometimes that’s to the warning and other times it’s to 1/4-1/2 tank because I have a towing trip coming up and don’t want to deal with it while on the road.

I do about the same, I don't put on a lot of miles , so I will run it down to nearly the red mark, then just 2.5 gals . When its trip time I am usually 1/2 tank or so . I buy a jug ,throw it in the fifth wheel ,and off we go .

^^Similar as I live in SC and the heat will break down DEF. Run the gauge down to 1/8 or warning light, add 1 box, rinse & repeat in 9 months.
