Dodge or Ram Cab Removal for repairs. Common or Uncommon?

Isuzu

ive read that some peaople are using gasser bovs (blow of valve like those on turbo japs) does it really work?

i have a piston type bov and was thinking about making steel

brake lines frpm exhoustmanifold to the bov

the main thing i want to know isnt the drive pressure to hot for the bov?

isnt the drive pressure to weak? (bov has a 2bar spring) for thw moment im running 2. 5bar. . how much higher pressure can i run withous blowin my plastic intercooler??

I am not sure on your bov, but you are on borrowed time

with your plastic end tanks. We use the bov here to control

turbo bark.

I blew my plastic IC only running 33-35 psi.

I thought BOVs went on the intake side, not exhaust side?

Drive pressure on these trucks is as hot as EGT's, and can easily be 2:1 on a stock turbo if the WG is disabled, and 1. 5:1 is normal cruise.

have a big aftermarket turbo and yes the bov is sure on the intake but instead of vaccum i was going to use drive pressure and make a copper pipe from the exhous to the bov and make a long copperline so it will cool. . read somwhere it works but i wanted to know if anyone is running. . !? btw ive already drilled and mounted the bov it only handels

1,2bar with the spring. . so i need somthing more to hold it back.

I wouldn't run a BOV based on DP, that will dump boost when the DP gets too high, unload the turbo and overspeed it! BOV's are used for dumping boost when you let off the throttle at high boost, not for controlling boost.

If you want to control DP you need to utilize a WG.

i will use it to dump boost when i let of the pedal. . but i will make drive pressure hold it shut when running also the spring will help it but if im correct drive pressure will drop faster than boost when you let of! when dp drops faster it will make the bov open and let boost go! am i right? i sure hope so. . read somwhere that it should work but nothing about who made it work! now i stumbled across one thing, my greddy rs rip off is i diapghram type and vill not hold up so i will make a piston with orings in it to make it hold warm dp (will make a post later if it works and if it works good)

What are all your mods? It's hard to tell what your trying to do with what without a sig...

Boost and drive seem to drop off about the same for me, but i've never watched with what you want to do in mind.

Let us know what you find.

htb2 62/12, smarty, 100hp sticks, cp3 modded from tc. the only problem is that i havent messured dp jet :( i hope it works cause the bov is tapped in and the intake is cut... somehow i will make it work... do i have vaccum on brakes on my truck to? another idea is to use boost and a little springload with a valve and tps sensor. . but it would be nice without electronics. . trying to make a budget option for all of us! it was a thread a while back about this bov db thing but no respons about it only that somebody tried

I assume you have an 05 from the plastic IC. . which with a 62 is on borrowed time!

Not a lot of folks running BOV's, I can't think of any off the top of my head. They really aren't needed on a diesel because there is no butterfly valve in the intake, unlike a gasser. The only time you would have an an issue is if you went from WOT to EB instantly, but most EB's have a delay built in for allowing the turbo to slow first, the OEM delay is about 3 seconds.

There isn't an OEM vac pump on your 05, and the motor won't create enough vacuum to open a valve, again due to lack of a butterfly valve.

I would put a DP gauge on to see what its doing, but it should be 1:1 with boost, unless your making more boost than the turbo is designed for.

The only diesel BOV I have found in a quick search uses electronics.

This actually does work. You also don't need an electronic controller. I run mine off drive pressure from the manifold. And the spring in the "external wastegate". Yes. I am using an external wastegate welded in right at the turbo for venting soci don't get turbo bark. As seeing I haven't done my sig yet I have a manual. I am running an external gate off my exhaust manifold to control boost. And then I'm running another external wastegate. No. Not a bov. An external wastegate acting as a bov. There's lots of info on this if you look it up under the 12v section and online but I did my own set up. It's a little tricky to get the right spring and then factor in your dp. Dp drops almost instantly which let's the pressure vent out. But the dp keeps the gate closed. I chose to run an external wastegate as my bov for various reasons. Been running it for 2 years now on my 12v. It doesn't open or let air out until it's supposed to. If you want more info I can give you my email. I've often thought about making and selling these as 75% of my friends use my set up with very good results.

Holy old thread batman!!

Sorry. I know. I just wanted to get the info out there. I just signed up for the site. I am getting all my info put in now and I will get pics and stuff uploaded I should have done that first. But I already started typing and was too deep to turn back. Lol. See you soon!

A BOV on a Diesel engine is pretty much nonsense as there is no throttle valve.
To save life of a turbo. And with a manual I disagree. We all have our opionions. And this doesn't work as a ricer valve. It only works when the pressure exceeds a certain amount. On a stock truck with a stock turbo. I wouldn't really see the need. But. All replys are always appreciated. In my opinion with my setup I need it. Maybe if you knew more about it you would change your mind. And if not. Of course that's fine as well.

Exactly... fill out your signature.. w/o details about your truck its hard to give help. BTW.. My buddy blew the endcaps off his 05 plastic intercooler with a stock truck and man trans... Go get an AL one from and 04 and you'll be fine, he did
