I'm a new member and really enjoy reading the post. I have learned a lot so far. This question probably has been covered before but I will ask again. I'm interested in a box that will help with towing and of course any mileage gain would be great too. I have been considering the Quad xzt with the 65hp increase or the Edge ez. Was wondering if anyone has had experience with these. Pros, cons, troubles, etc. I'm not interested in bombing the truck right now, just some minor improvements. Maybe there is a better option then one of these two boxes. I have a 05, 2500, 48re. with the only mod. is airaid filter system. Thanks in advance for any info.

Hello, welcome aboard. I've also have been looking into various boxes for towing. If your looking at the quad boxes you might want to look at the standard box. This box has the ability to switch back to stock. The XZT once plugged in can only be shut down by removing the module.

The Van Aaken box VA. C3/ Edge Juice allows you make horse power and torque without adding more fuel pressure.

Another consideration is gauges. With the XZT you will need at least a pryro gauge. the Edge systems at a higher price includes the attitude monitor. Good luck

If you are looking for mileage gain on an 05 the XZT works well or if you want a downloader type I would use the Superchips new unit. My first choice would be the Quad XZT. It is not adjustable but is made for towing fuel economy so you can just turn it on and leave it on.

The XZT will be made adjustable with the monitor... ... . Oo.

Welcome to the board...

Just a thought... You have a 3rd gen and have a lot of stock power that earlier CTD's only achieved with lots of power mods. If you really need the extra power, have at it, but you may not need it for normal towing. If you do the mods watch your transmission. Unless you beef it up you could have problems. Also... By keeping it stock you don't have any issues with warranty work... Enjoy... ;)

I've got the Edge Attitude/Juice on my '05 CTD. I've been very pleased with the performance, and the built in safety features like the programable back down parameters that help prevent things like over temp, over boost, and excessive EGT's.

So far, the highest EGT's I've seen on level 2 (towing mode) has been 1150 df.

I think you'd be very happy with the Edge.

thanks for the suggestions and thoughts. I agree I do make good power but I'm somewhat of a motor head anyway. Into drag racing and it has been hard to resist the urge to modify the truck. So far it pulls my trailer just fine. But here in Indiana you have to look hard to find a good hill. Just how much more power will the transmission take? 50-65hp be too much? don't want to mess up the transmission, I do have to make it home at night. but you gave me some ideas to think about.

I suspected that you wanted more then increased towing power... :D :D

Have fun and remember the saying... "you play... you pay. " ;)

1150? I just had isspro guages installed on my 05... . it's bone stock and I can get it to 1350 within a qtr mile with it floored..... no trailer..... is your pyro installed pre or post turbo? Because I've seen people post they see up to 1450 towing with a stock 05... . and my readings confirm it.

Dont get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the J/A, and I'll be getting one after I get my transmission done! The 04. 5+ trucks just run hot!

I see your from Kokomo, and into drag racing, do you own a Coan converter??? Good converters, good service! Hey I have the same truck you do, see signature, and like you just wanted a tad more grunt. My truck stock impressed me going from an '02 with a 70 horse chip to a motor that makes 20 more horse than that stock :) All smiles here. As for the box situation I have the edge EZ and will never take it off! In my opinion edge is well known and well known for all good things..... you cant go wrong with others good experience. I think I paid like $530 for it and would buy another one if I had another truck to put it on. I recently installed a full set of Isspro gauges, also a fine product. I do see high egts on hard acceleration on level 2 hard pedal itll go to 1200 deg. Will get Banks Techni-cooler and intake set up this spring along with BD converter & valve body. (saving money) As for the transmission if you dont run on level 3 all the time youll be fine. I daily drive mine on level 2 (will tow on level 1) and I tend to run it hard at times. Never a hiccup. I like the edge over others for being adjustable, installs easily in only about 10 min. If you can check your oil you can install this box. On level 2 power brake it, wait for boost to build and youll smoke the BFG'S into a pile of left over Power-Stroke :-laf Do what you want but Ill push Edge products always and the EZ is a mainstay for towers. Not a drag race box but a good milage and daily driver box. Good luck, Smokin Joe

I am loving the XZT and have noticed an increase in economy as well as ease of driveability. I have only driven about 200 miles with it so far and find myself making excuses to the wife just to go take the truck out for a spin. It took me about 10 min to install and it performs flawlessly. At only $299 I feel that this chip should have the market cornered in the tow choice department

For those of you that have the XZT..... do you have to tap the throttle position wire? I like the idea of a 10 minute install / uninstall... . but a tapped TP Wire makes that a little difficult. FYI, I'm refering to the supplimental install sheet that is on the Quad website... . that's related to tapping some wire...

HI Smokin... I haven't bought the box yet due to a too busy schedule. But both boxes seem like they will do for me... We don't race truck, we run a dragster. So the truck will only see a day or two on the track just for grins. No I don't have any Coan stuff and mostl likely will not... long story. If we ever get rich or stop racing I am sure I will jump in with both feet on the diesel. This one is my first and I'm amazed at what you can do with one. It is alot more fun than the old hemi truck... thanks

I used the Edge EZ for a year or so. I did get get a nice increase in power. I than used a Quadzilla Xzillerator which gave a lot more power, in fact on setting 3 the clutch will slip in 6th with a trailer on and getting into it on hills. I never noticed any mileage gain with either module. I am not using either one right now as I am having injector pump issues which a "good" dealer is addressing. I am hoping to find out after the pump is changed as to what may have caused the problems. I suspect a lift pump failure way back or maybe the modules. I would be interested in hearing from any one else who may have had a similar experience. I am thinking I should have spent the money upfront and got a box that does timing and duration only, leaving the pressure stock.

TST PMCR... . from mild to wild whenever you want. Still the most bang for the buck.

Yes I had to tap the tps wire. If I was worried about warranty issues I wouldn't have considered any box. I guess this tps wire only applies to 05's.

I see the addendum now, but I haven't seen a thread talking about in detail as to when and why this was added. What's the benefit of this version over the original XZT?
