I was thinking some the other day about why a defective IAT would give worse mileage, it seemed to be that if you were injecting a little more fuel then that would just burn and make you go faster, so your pedal position might change but why would that affect mileage?
It dawned on me that if you are injecting more fuel than you could use then you would get smoke and waste fuel. Boost wouldnt be right and you would waste energy
I then thought about the effects of over boost. There was a thread on the TDR some time ago that talked about the robbing force of too much boost. I mean your piston has to comprees this larger amount yet it doesnt get the bang if you are not putting enough Diesel in there. Right?
So it seems that both can cost you ie, too much fuel per air or too much boost and not enough fuel.
I started thinking that if an edge box tricks the ecm to thinking boost is lower than it is then you arent going to get the right amount of fuel and your pistons are going to be compressing more on the compression stroke than they have to. Anyone else thought this? Does the edge, or anybox actually read pressure and change fueling or do you just have too much boost and no defueling?
