I would not really want a Cat..... Parts dept seems to think they are made of gold  Plus the newer cat stuff seems to be going down hill in quality, kind of like GM and Furd. :(

it's got to be better than the 6. 0h no!!

not to change the subject but while talking with a ford rep that stops at my dealership told me the new v6 diesels for the F-150's will have twins.

"For the best balance of performance and fuel

economy, spec axle ratios and tire sizes to

obtain: 2000 rpm @ 60 mph (97 km/h).

Maximum recommended cruise speed is

65 mph (105 km/h). "

They recommend the max cruise speed to be 65mph? :rolleyes: That will really make the Ford boys proud. :{

Last I heard from a rep for the West Coast, Cat isn't even interested in putting an engine in a light duty truck. They don't even have one to go into one anywise. And don't even mention that POS 3208. They haven't made the 3206 for lots and lots of years,... so what would they use that is small enought for a light duty truck?

Ford's 2006 Eng.

A Ford design engineer says the 6. 0 L will be replaced with

the old 7. 3 Powerstroke with twin turbos. If you look at the

Cat mentioned, it is too big, too long, and too heavy for a

Ford pickup. In other words it would require too much

re-engineering. (Engr was staying at a Motel in W. V. )

None of the dealers have any info on this or else they are

keeping it quiet and who knows, they may not change at

all. One thing for certain they have to comply with the

EPA restrictions.

C series

I know several truckers running C series engines, they don't seem to hold up well so far. I used to love Cat, I would be tempted to try one, man the torque curve is downright impressive! Pford would have to retool everything, I doubt it will happen after its long term comitment to Navistar.

Why should Ford change anything. Their fans keep buying them with the 6. 0 just the way it is now.

I agree and I feel confident that Furd and International will work out the bugs on the 6L powerjoke. Grizzly

Even if ford did go to Cat would the torqueshift be able to handle the low rpm torque that the Cat would put out (and the powerjoke doesn't)?

if you read the ford thread it said that ford will design the new engine. well thats no good. they had a hand in designing the powerstrokes. not many people no it but cat and international did help with the design on the 7. 3. cat designed the fuel setup in the 7. 3

i have a 2000 f650 that HAD a 3126 cat. nothing but trouble, cat never could make it run right, put a new engine in and it didnt run right, but, guess what! the new engine didnt have any warrenty!!so,now i'm paying them to work on it. . i got tired of that deal and sold the cat on ebay and put an 8. 3 cummins in the truck. . ohhh, how sweet it is (now!) randy

I just got a Cat C-7 300HP/860 ft/lb

I just got a Cat C-7 in our new fire truck. The chassis is a 2005 Freightliner M2-106. The Cat is coupled with an Allison transmission. It's a 1300 lb engine! I think the truck is somewhere around 40000 lbs loaded with water and the Cat pulls it along fine. I don't think it will fit in a light duty pickup but I've seen stranger things. I'm sure if Ford got their hands on it they would wreck it too.

Isn't the C7 like 1500lbs dry? I couldn't imagine trying to bomb a genuine cat engine either, imagine how expensive breaking something would be! Cat's proprietary fuel systems don't help anything either...

I have heard of lots of problems with the 6. 0L Ford up here in Canada aswell. I heard that they have been burning out the Turbo.

I have a GMC Top Kick with a 3116 Cat and a fuller 6 speed. I have owned this truck for almost 9 years. It was just under two years old when I bought it. This truck (Cat engine) have been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned (knock on wood). I run this truck 12-13 hours per day 5 days a week. I have been extremley happy with the 3116 Cat, I had one minor issue with the fuel pump and that's about it. I park it in the same spot everyday and there's not a drop of oil on that concrete. It makes me nothing but money..... :D

Just purchased an 01 Cummins Quad Cab Sport 4X4, I have been a huge fan of the Cummins motor for a long time. Cummins... . Cat, they both sound good to me. Just stay away from that 6. 0L and everything will be fine.
