i have a 96 4x4 2500 ctd. i have to replace the front brake pads this week. how do i no when to replace the rotors? the rotors appear thick on the outside and inside. is there a measurement they are supposed to be? also what is the process of removing these rotors?

Use a dial indicator to measure rotor run out. Use a micrometer to measure rotor thickness variation. If they are within specs and not gouged up leave them alone. The specs on my '95 are . 005" runout and . 001" thinkness variation measured about 1" from the edge.

Fanz, hopefully you shouldn't have to buy new rotors. They come with new bearings all as one unit. I know the dealer gets over $300 each for them. Not cheap. Good luck.

A couple of things , if when you are coming to a slow stop, like a exit ramp and your giving it lite braking and you can feel the truck or brake peddle vibrate or pulse inthe pedle then you've got a warpt rotor and you would have to go to a brake shop to have them turned , becouse they'll have a machine that can turn them on the truck if the thicness is right, if not not out of round then just put a new set of pads in, but in addition I think its very important to flush the system every 20,000-30,000 , your hydrolics will last a lot longer.
