I don't know if it's "nickel and dime week" but sure has been for me... started with the headlights shorting out in the tilt column... but the advice of a fellow TDR member got me back on the road in less than 30 minutes... for that I am extremely greatful!

Now... suddenly the brake and ABS lights came on... the brakes; front, back and wheel cylinders were just replaced all within the last 2 months... no leaks, no problems with how the truck stops, etc.

Went back to the brake shop... they found now problems, but didn't have a computer to see what code was being thrown...

Ater calling around with no luck... finally visited the stealer who said the truck is perfectly safe to drive... that the ABS speed sensor is out and that for $250. 00, they can repair it next Thursday and make the lights go away...

Sounds a bit steep to me... is there a way of changing this sensor myself and clearing the code?

The only thing that I had done to the truck just before the lights came on was, added a leaf to the rear suspension, a 1" block below the axle and leaf's, and Ranho 9000 RS shocks to acomodate carrying my slide in camper... . again all advice from another knowledagble TDR member...

Again, the truck stops fine but the rear ABS is disabled due to this sensor... which is just fine with me... but I really want to reset the code.

Any help or advice will be sincerly appreciated... and thanks agian for "bailing" me out!!!

The ABS/speed sensor is also the VSS=vehicle speed sensor. Yes you can change the sensor yourself, it is located on the differential. Before replacing it, I would take a look under your truck and make sure that there is not a problem with the connection at the sensor. It could be that when the springs and blocks were installed, the wiring to the sensor was disturbed. Odds are that the VSS is bad, it's a common problem. The lights will go out when the sensor is replaced and work properly. You wont need to worry about the code, which by the way is P500

ABS Light...

Thanks for the help... I changed the sensor in the differential and the problem has been solved... The "stealer" wanted $210. 00 to do the job at the end of next week... earliest appt. availabale.

Thanks to your advice, $31. 10 and 1/2 hour of labor the job is done!

Thanks again... .

Did your speedometer act up . My light has beeen on for a month, after hooking up a trailer with nasty looking wires. I would have changed the sensor but the speedo was fine.

By any chance can you tell me where you picked up your sensor if you didnt get it from the dealer. A buddy of mine is havin the same problem. Hopefully this will be the fix. Thanks
