am in the process of basically rebuilding my entire brake system.

My original master cylinder would not maintain pressure when holding down the brakes at a stop light, so I decided to replace the booster/master as a unit. I got one from NAPA and when I installed it and started to bleed the master I noticed that while applying the brakes with my hand there were (2) places where there was defineately more resistance than during the rest of the stroke. I went ahead and finished bleeding the system and it was still happening, so I took it back to NAPA and got another one. The new one has the increased resistance/pop issue in (1) place and a bonus squeaking noise to boot. I did not actuate the master cylinder until I had fluid in the resevoir. What am I doing wrong?

BTW - I have replaced master cylinders before and never had this issue. It almost feels like one of the seals on the piston in the master is not installed correctly and is interferring with the piston to bore clearence.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I think if you do a search, you will find out that the NAPA cylinders are junk. Most people have had bad luck with them.

Sorry to be a bearer of bad news.

Thanks Pete! That is what I was afraid of... . Can someone recommend another source for a booster/master assy?

In my experience, ALL reman master cylinders are junk, and about 1/3 of the new ones are, too. It is a real crapshoot getting a good master cylinder for a Dodge. I've had good luck with Bendix brand hydraulic parts in the past. Unfortunately, if you go to a local parts store and ask for "Bendix" you get starter parts or something like that.

Good one Daniel - :-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

I remember when I could go to a NAPA and get Dana/Spicer, Bendix, Wagner, Bower, Timken and other name brand parts, but now almost everything NAPA sells has their name on the box and a boat load of the stuff is made in China:{

BTW - I took the master/booster back to NAPA and ordered a new one from the dealer. I will not get it until Thursday, but hopefully it will be better than the NAPA rebuilt unit.

Thanks for the replies.
