I know, I know... don't over tighten... but I broke the 1/2' bolt that holds the caliper into the larger pad bracket. These are not the larger 13/16" bolts that really need to be torqued, but the smaller ones that just keep the calipers in place...

... are these bolts dealer items or can they be gotten at a hardware store? They look just like regular metric thread types.

Will just a good grade 8 store bought one suffice?

Thanks.

If it were me, I'd just use an ordinary screw. No reason to go to the dealer. I'd argue that even a grade 5 would be fine - I think the stock screws are grade 5.

They don't take much load. They're just there to keep the caliper in place.

Thanks Ryan. I ended up calling the dealer and they referred me to a local fastener store. The bolts are metric equivalent of SAE grade 8... they did not have one so I upped to a grade 12 (equivalent) cap head bolt.

The weird thing about this situation... there must have been a defective bolt as I was not horking down hard on it... just running it in to fasten the caliper! I tried to hack saw a groove/ slot to remove the broken end piece still in the bracket with a screw driver, but it would not budge. I ended up drilling a hole and using an extractor and it came out like butter.

I got the brake job finished this evening.
