Was making a run of about 125 miles yesterday and all of a sudden had no power steering. Pulled over and discovered I had a major leak in my power system. Metal end that goes into the pump was leaking big time. Had trouble here before and had transmission fluid, filled it up and made it to the next town. That's when I discovered I also had no brakes. I have very good trailer brakes so I got stopped and into a parking lot near an auto parts store. I was expecting the o-ring to be blown, wrong. The good Dodge mech had cross-treaded the fitting, its now no good. I got more fluid and a roll of teflon tape to slow the leak down to a minor leak and finished my job. Will order parts tomorrow.

Now the question is did I mess something up since I have set this code? Does anyone have any idea. The code was P 0573 Brake Switch 1 High.

According to the Powertrain diagnostics manual:

P0573 - High voltage detected at the brake switch

Possible Causes: brake switch shorted to voltage

Repair instructions: repair brake switch shorted to voltage

Not very descriptive, I know. I'm having trouble interpreting it myself. Perhaps someone else will have an idea.

Thanks of the response, I think I know what the code is about. It has nothing to do with the power steering problem. About a week ago a truck I was following decided to unload a bunch of tree branches, I was in traffic so I could do nothing except run over them. It pulled the wires out in the rear of my truck and pulled everything out of my trailer connection. Something probably got shorted then and I didn't notice the code until yesterday. Again, thanks for the response, I just have to get the hose replaced and I'll be going again, I hope.
