Used Hitch web site?

I couldn't find any ifo on this on the board - so sorry if I'm asking a oft answered question.....

Is there a jumper or harness under the dash to hook the brake controller up to? Or do I need to splice it in? (2001 2500 Quad Cab w/ Tow Package BTW) The last time I did one of these (a 98) it had a blue wire that ran back to the brake terminal on th etrailer plug, but I had to tap into the power and brake light wires. Have they updated this dince?

Ford tow packages use a harness that plugs in that has all the wires ready to hook up, and no cutting or tapping. At least that is one thing ford does right :)

TIA

I have a '96 with the towing package. It came with a plug in a little kit in the glove compartment. That plug spliced right to your controller and plugged into a connector under the dash down low near the steering column if I remember right. I bet you have the connector too. Often the plug is missing from the glove compartment along with the instuctions and even a 4 prong adapter plug for your trailer connector in the rear. If you are missing these items and you bought your truck new, see your dealer. If they no longer do this, blame the Germans!

I don't have the harness in the glove box, but my truck was used. If there is one, it shouldn't be a big deal to get a new one from the dealer (hopefully)

Thanks

Dave

Dave, I hope I didn't mislead you. There is no harness in the glove compartment. There was a plastic bag in the glove compartment when my truck was delivered. In the bag was a plug with leads to connect to a brake controller, a 4 prong adapter plug for the rear and instructions on how to find the under dash connector to plug into after you attached the plug to your controller. This only comes with the factory towing package. If the towing package is aftermarket I don't have a clue as to what it contains.

there should be a harness--sometimes hard to find. if it isn't there, don't splice into any wires except the stoplight switch. run power & ground directly to battery source & use a 30amp circuit breaker in the hot lead. ---Sam

The plug with lead-ins IS the harness. The D/C number on the harness is(was?) 56020142AB. Once you have it in hand, find a place to plug it in as mentioned above.

A word of caution-the wire colors on the harness DO NOT match the wire colors on Tekonsha controllers. Connect wires by function rather than color.
