5th wheel height w/ 4x4

HI all,

I plan on purchasing a new 5v'er. After an exhaustive research I have decided to go with a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller. My question is that Camping World sells a brake control harness for $8. 99 that supposedly plugs into the truck (under dash w/tow package) then plugs into the Tekonsha Prodigy, thus eliminating any splicing. Has anyone used this?

I have not used it. The one I have used on the 97 and 2001 is the one supplied by DC which plugs into the under steering col unit which probably is the same setup as Camper World or should be. After that wishy washy statement I could run for government office. :D

Your sig says that you have the tow package. You should have a pigtail that came with the truck when new - mine was in a plastic bag in the console. It will have a plug on one end with 4 wires coming out - that's what you use to connect your brake controller. If you can't find it, personally I'd go to my stealer and tell him to cough one up! :D

The Camping World pigtail will work (be sure it's for the right model year), but you can also pick them up at just about any trailer hitch dealer.

If you call Tekonsha direct you can order a pig tail from them. They make one that plugs direct into the controller and the supplied plug under the dash all in one harness. I've seen the Prodigy price as low as $99. 00, and as high as $169. 99. Check around for the best price! I have and use one myself, Its a good unit. If you buy one make sure you get the new model. The tag on the back with the serial number will be blue rather than white on the early version.

Thanks

thanks,

I do have the pigtail supplied by Dc just didn't want to be bothered with the splicing. It's worth 10 bucks to me to just plug it in to truck and plug it into controller.

I'm not familiar with the Prodigy since I use the Jordan controller, but every controller I've ever owned (Reese Brakeman I, Tekonsha Sentinel, Jordan Ultima) had to be wired into a pigtail. Maybe the Prodigy has eliminated this.....

maybe your right. i thought it would have a plug at both ends. anybody out there ever hear of a harness that also plugs into the controller or do they all have to be spliced in.

I ordered the Camping World harness/pigtail when I ordered my Tekonsha Sentinel. It had to be spliced together. Like I said, dunno about the Prodigy.

Rusty

The Prodigy wire harness plugs into the back of unit its self. You can order a harness made special for the Prodigy that plugs into the controller on one end and the other end right into the plug under the dash. NO SPLICING required. Like I said in an earlier post. Give them a call. We are not talking about any other controllers. Only the Prodigy, this is a new feature since the Prodigy is a quick mount and can be taken out in matter of seconds.

"My" supplier gets 125 for the Prodigy also. And, 8. 49 for the plug in wiring harness. I am liking this idea although it makes it easy for a thief.

Komik..... I just bought a prodigy for my new wheels and after reading your comment on the serial number color I wondered what the difference would be. Mine happens to be blue, but the instructions only go up to '99 on the dodge. Just curious... ... Mak:D

re; controler

another thing that you might want to consider when installing your controler, is angel it at about 70*, i know, that it is electronic and should not make any difference, but confering with the techs at tekonsa, and not solving the problem that i had with the first, older unit, they sent me the newer, up dated unit that has three boast levels. set it at the same setting as the first one, and it worked great on my next trip. just a note, they are not all created equal. just my pennys worth.

marv.
