Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller ?'s

Fundamental Operation of a Weight Distributing Hitch

So I'm going to look at and/or pick up a 1955 dodge truck saturday and need some trailer wiring tips. My friend is lending me his 24' enclosed trailer but I don't have a brake controller. I found this one locally: Blain's Farm and Fleet : Hopkinsâ„¢ Brake - Forceâ„¢ Brake Control

but am not sure if this is what I need. Last time I was under the truck I noticed the old 4pin/wire set up. Do I need to buy a new harness?

I'll assume that you are needing the controller for the '94 in your signature. You didn't say if you have the factory tow package or not. On my 95, it had the factory tow package and there's a blue wire that is under the carpet by the clutch pedal at the firewall. It runs back to the factory round 7 wire connector. As for the controller, the one you linked to would probably do the job, but you get what you pay for.

to be honest if it is not that far of a tow I would not worry about a brake controller just know that it will take you a little longer to stop and judge it that way . if your going to do alot of towing then I would look into a good controller prodigy makes a awesome one I have towed stuff for years and this yr was the first time I hauled a big enough load that I wanted to put one on my truck Hope that help's some

It is a 94. and I don't think I have tow pack.
I need to tow about 1 1/2 hours so not to far. Although my friend requested I have a brake controller. The 55 may replace my 94 ram. I think I have too much truck considering the most I will need to tow would be my Model A which weighs in around 2000lbs. So I'm considering a 4bt swap in the 55. If I buy a controller I can always move it over to the 55.

If your truck has the factory hitch receiver installed it probably had a factory towing package also. If you don't already have a seven pin towing receptacle under the rear bumper you will probably need a complete towing wiring harness. You will need not only trailer brakes but trailer running lights and stop/turn signals.

Most retailers that sell travel trailers or work trailers (enclosed cargo or flatbed) are capable of fabricatinga wiring harness for your truck.
