He said he had to slam on the brakes to avoid a accident, then drove a ways and noticed no brakes, when he pulled over the entire wheel, brakes everything was smoking hot.

The pedal goes straight tothe floor with little resistance, but near the bottom the truck starts to pull to the side.

Rick

Pedal going to floor sounds like he lost his master cylinder or maybe brake booster went.

Brake pull sounds like stuck caliper. If he had lost fluid it could of been fluid on the disc/breaks.

Service manual states "brake pull"

Contaminated lining on caliper

Seized caliper piston*

Bindidg caliper*

Loose caliper*

Rusty adapter/caliper slide survace

Improper brake shoes

Damaged Rotor*

* most likely

Low pedal

If a low pedal is experienced, pump the brake pedal several times. If pedal comes back up, worn lining,, rotors.

Thanks RDusch for posting this. This is the same gripe as the post by KIrwin.

He could pull the wheel on the affected brake , use a chisel / screw diver to try to pry the pad piston back in [ from both sides or make sure that the piston is pushed back in evenly ] .
Then when he has a chance , check it out & flush hyd system .

As of 8:45 this morning they hadn't touched the truck. I just got off the phone with the tech and he said that BOTH hubs are toast.

Estimated $1147 repair and should be done tomm afternoon. He tried to tell me that it was the 35" toyos that possible did the damage

Brake failure from hub failure????

Is'nt this covered by 3/36 warranty? If your truck is beyond 36,000 miles, then it should be covered under power train warranty if its a 4X4 with a $100 deductible. Your tires didn't cause the brakes to fail or the hubs to fail for that matter. Ken Irwin

My truck clicked over 50,000 last friday and I was told by the service writer that the hubs are not covered under the powertrain.
