Onan 2500 Microlite LP...where to buy?

I 70 closed west of Denver

Does anyone know of a good place to get a brake job in or near Seattle ? I was just quoted $750 for shoes and new magnets for a 19 foot 1988 TT.

?

Several Options:

I used to have good luck with Walts, but since I've used them, they have been bought out by someone else(?).

Les Schwaab has always had a good rep, but they are pricey. .

Midas always seems to do good.....

Good luck

I'm in Utah, not Seattle, but - last year when I needed new shoes and magnets for my 19-foot Prowler, I found that I could get all new axle kits, with complete brakes, bearings, springs, etc - all but hubs/wheels/tires, for less than $500.

The shoes and magnets were going to be maybe $250, just for the parts. Original brakes were an odd size, making parts more expensive. Brakes couldn't be unbolted and replaced with complete units, because they were welded on - Yuk!

I had to install them myself, but what an improvement, at a very reasonable cost. The new bearings and brakes are a bit bigger, and all work perfectly now.

Member Sam Peterson (360-357-4958) is a professional brake man. I'm pretty sure that he's in the Seattle area. If he doesn't do trailer brakes himself, I'm sure he can direct you to someone you can trust.

When I had a single brake go bad on a Dexter axle, I replaced the backing plate assembly, which included new shoes, springs, etc. It did not include new magnets. I don't remember the exact price, but I was surprised at how reasonable the cost was. If you are mechanically inclined, and have Dexter axles, you can probably do this yourself for way under $500 I would think.

I haven't replaced magnets, but replacing the backing plate is an EASY job. You probably need to repack the bearings anyway, and that's about half the job.

Good luck.
