The truck has been sitting for the last week or so. When I started her up yesterday, the brake light on the dash stayed on.

Brake fluid is OK, the parking brake is fully released, brakes work fine.

Any ideas or suggestions??????

Is there any play in your brake pedal? I had to bleed my brakes after replacing my hydra boost because the brake light was staying on. If you have any air in your system. Maybe the switch has gone bad. If you replace the switch they are $20. 00 at dealer, couldn't find one at the parts stores. They are an adjustable switch. After you install a new switch plug in the connector there is a trip lever to set the length of the plunger. Very important not to trip lever before switch is in because it is a one time adjust only. Don't ask me how I know. :( The switch also controlls your cruise controll disconnect for when you touch your brakes to knock off the cruise. Also if you tow a trailer with a brake controller it sends the signal for your trailer brakes to engage.

actually the switch is adjustable, usually more thanonce, if the locking tab doesnt shear off. ive taken it apart, relocked it back down and reinstalled it then pull the tab and readjusted it. prob fixed.

It's not my brake lights that are staying on it's the brake light indicator in the dash display that stays lit.

that used to happen alot on the older dodges, with the new ones, a quick fix might be to unhook the batteries for like 30 minutes to reset the computer, i dunno just a guess, its worked on other strange things... my . 02

Thanks for all of the replies but I found the problem.

There's a pin hole in the brake line going to the rear brakes. I put some news paper under the truck and just pressed on the brake pedal. Sure enough, I saw a wet spot just in front of the rear wheels. I'm very thankful that this happened now and not on my trip to Long Island in a few weeks!!!!!!

Again, thanks for all of the replies!!!!

on my 96 when the brake light was on i had brakes but no abs. it happened last year when my truck sat through a snow storm. the sensor is located on the rear axle. pull it and clean it real good with die-electric spray and put it back in. thats usually what the problem is. the sensor is either wet or dirty.
