My brake warning and anti lock lights went on about two weeks ago. I filled the front reservoir, which was low, with brake fluid and the light went out fo a few miles then returned. I had a brake job done ( not because of this - it was already scheduled) and the garage spent alot of time trying to bleed them and looking at voltages and fuses because they thought they did it. I was reeeeeal honest and told them it was that way before. The only thing they could come up with for why it was still on was the sender unit or something in the computer that needed to be reset??? Any ideas? It sometimes it's off when I start out and comes on after a few minutes. :(

Run your fault codes. It could be just about anything from the ABS valve to the one way vac valve on the booster. Run the codes and most likely you will find what it is.

OK, Here goes. Pull the glove box out and behind it you will see a box with a bunch of wires running to it. Follow those wires back about an inch or so and you will find a wire with a plug on the end. I think it's a black wire. Anyway, ground that wire for a second and watch your brake warning lite. It will blink a code.

If you don't know what the codes are post them on this thread and I can tell you what they are.

Just a note, the number 12 will be one flash a pause then two flashes. Got it? It may flash the codes twice so don't get confused. When it's done it will just stop flashing.

OH, one more thing. Don't do like I did and try to remember them, write them down. Us old people don't remember like we used to.

Youth is so wasted on the young. BAH!!

An easier way to run the codes is to do... Key on... Key off... Key on... Key off... . KEY ON - All within 3 seconds. . then watch (I think the 'check engine light') for the codes. eg:4 flashes. . pause. . 1 flash = code 41.

Bob.

Bushwakr, I didn't know that would do that. I'll try it in the morning and see. Sure would be easier.

Thanks Bob and Dave... ... .

My light came on again yesterday too. Ist time in several months.

I'll try the key cycle thing and check it out.

Don't you love Dodge brakes

I just started having the same problem with my truck too. The ABS and warning light would come on after 10 to 15 minutes of driving and then would stay on. I have done a complete brake job within the last 6 months. I had replaced the master cylinder and vaccuum booster in January. For some reason the front part of the master cylinder was low and I kept having brake fluid on the frame under the master cylinder. I went and got a new master cylinder, not remaned, and that seemed to cure everything for now. The best part is that the brakes are feeling even better than they used to. I guess my point is, don't over look the master cylinder. Hope this helps.

I must be a moron because I knew about the key thing for a long time but I always looked by the brake lights. Of course the lights never blinked so I thought the book was lying to me. All I see now is a code 55. The book says this is an end of message code? Rich

I looked in my 93 manual and the trouble codes that come from cycling the ignition switch are for the engine and are shown on the check engine light. The antilock brake codes come from grounding the connector at the module behind the glove box. The first flash of the anti lock lamp is long and indicates the start of a code sequence, the rest are short. Count all of the flashes, include the long one, the codes are numbered 1-15. The antilock controller can only hold one code at a time, so the suggested procedure is to fix the code, clear by disconnecting the control for 30 seconds and then test drive and check for more codes.

I hope that helps!

Ps The brake light will light in tandem with the antilock light when trouble codes are output.

Could anyone tell me what my codes mean?

I did the ignition test and the check engine light flashed five times, then a short pause, then five more.

My dad tried this on his '97 and got 3 flashes, pause, 5 flashes, pause, and then 5 more.

Thanks for your help.

Mike

MY 92 & 93 manuals shown that 55 isn't listed for the Cummins engine. Code 55 is listed for the gas engines and it means end of codes, so I'm not sure if you could safey presume that it means the same for the Cummins?
