Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem with there truck?Mine when I push the brake pedal there is about a second or delay before they light up. Any ideas???And the truck doesent stop as quick as my wifes 03 Ram 1/2 ton 4x4. The brakes arent as responsive as hers. Thanks.

brake lights and brake performance

I hadn't paid any attention to my truck, so I went out and checked it. There is a very slight delay on the brake lights, but it's nowhere near a second. I haven't looked, but I assume there is the standard switch on the brake pedal and maybe your's is sticking a little. I have noticed a delay when turning on the headlights that my 2001 didn't have... not significant, but noticeable. And, as far as brake performance... this 2003 is by far the best of any truck (or car for that matter) that I have ever owned.

I agree with Boonieman, our '03 has brakes way superior to the last three Dodges we have owned. May be time to get yours checked out; also drive similar another truck off the lot for comparison. The brakes on the 1500 4x4 are vacuum boost, while the 3500 are hydraulic (power steering pump) boost so it is a different animal, but when right they work as good or better than the vacuum brakes.....

The brakes on my '03 are superb. I notice that even more than the difference in power from my previous CTD's . The brakes on my 98. 5 3500 4wd were horrible.

PCM controlled?

Maybe all the lights are computer controlled now and the switches just act as a "signal" to the puter which would cause the delay. Also, drove another brand spanking new one after the order was placed (all the plastic, etc was still in place) and the oil guage act'd like I would expect. Went to about 50-60 and dropped to under 40 at idle when warmed up. Put about 4 miles on it and no 6spd noise, nice smooth shifts (till I had senior moment). Gonna have to re-learn the pattern - rev is not down and back  . If it would have been closer to my specs, would have bought it right then and there. Think it was ordered for one of the owners.

Hope to have VIN # next week & half to start tracking it. Hope it makes it in before we head to East Coast for a few weeks. Would love to take it and "brake-it-in", on a "shake-down-cruise" :D

Thanks to all for the replies... Mine has that delay, but what really trips me out is how crap th bakes are. Was that way from new and dont know why?Is there anythig cn chck to help solv the issue?Hate to take it to dealer sine the bumper to bumper dont cover brakes. Aloha and Thank You. Ron

The brakes on mine are the best I have ever had on a truck. You must have somethig seriously wrong with your truck. I would take it to the dealer. Perhaps the hydraulic boost is faulty. The bumper to bumper doesn't cover the friction materials but should cover the hydraulic components. Either way, have it checked out before you pile it up. FWIW
