For a 1995 truck, the adjustment procedure for the brake light switch
is as follows (I just did this yesterday):

Remove knee bolster below steering wheel (5 screws).
Disconnect wiring harness from brake light switch
Rotate brake light switch 30 degrees counterclockwise
Pull brake light switch free from bracket
Pull brake light switch plunger all the way out. (It will take significant force to accomplish this. )
Push the switch plunger in 4 detents or "clicks" (do this one click at a time).
(This is the starting point for the "self adjusting switch").
The plunger should extend out about 0. 55 inches at this point
Depress brake pedal with one hand
Insert switch into bracket with other hand, aligning tab on switch with notch on bracket, then rotate switch 30 degrees clockwise to lock the switch in place.
Release brake pedal
Pull brake pedal up until it reaches the top of its travel.
(Do not force up hard, rather pull up with about a 10 pound pull).
The brake light switch plunger will move in some additional "clicks"
Reconnect wiring harness
Test that brake lights now work properly
Re-install knee bolster

This is one of those cases where the factory service manual is well worth the price.
I never would have guessed the "pull plunger out, then press in 4 clicks" part.

my wife will I willl help as my eyes sight is not so good

is this hard to get to

thanks

If you remove the knee bolster and if you don't have a lot of aftermarket junk jammed behind the dash (like an alarm system), the brake light switch is easy to get to. Just follow the brake pedal arm upward, the switch is near the point that the brake booster rod attaches to the pedal arm. You could almost find the switch blindfolded. The job is much harder if you insist on doing it from below the dash (because you are in too much of a hurry to remove the knee bolster).

You will still have to go through the adjustment procedure, even with a new switch.
