Some of you might remember a while back I was looking for a line lock to use as a short term parking brake aidwhile I launch/retrieve my boat at the boat ramp. The first unit I tried from Hurst did not work out because it would get hot and let go. It as meant for very short term (15 seconds) use the way the motor windings were designed. Well I found another one from a company in California, www.porkbarrelengineering.com , that winds their motors different and will hold long term. I got one of their units, installed it and locked it for an hour and a half and it held very well. I put it on the front brakes as a back up to the rear parking brakes. If anyone is looking for a line lock, this one gets my vote.

NAPA also has a micro brake lock setup. The part# 57515. I have used these a couple of times as replacements on wreckers. They hold up pretty good.

I also have another brand in the garage. I'll dig it out tomorrow and get the MFG and model numbers.

A regular line lock won't hold up to heavy use.

I missed your earlier post on this subject. Or I wasn't a member at the time.

Philip,

is the one you have electric or manual? illflem had found one at jcwhitney i think it was, but it was manual and I did not want to run brake lines into the cab so I had looked around for an electric valve. These are made for the off road crowd using jeeps for rock crawling , etc. , and I hope are as rugged as the intended users are.

Both are electric. I don't like the manual type my self eather.

You don't get much harder on one than on a wrecker. The ones I have seen go bad were around 4 to 5 years old.

I have heard about the mico's and they are supposed to be tops, but the price reflects it and I could not justify it for my need.

I haven't priced one in a long time. So I don't know what they cost anymore. I would go check out the one NAPA has and see what you think of it. If your local store doesn't have one in stock. They can have one in the next day most of the time.

The mico I have is very heavy built. This thing weights about 3 pounds. I got mine from a close out auction of a junkyard. They kept a spare for the wreckers they had.

when I last looked at the mico unit, they were close to a grand - too much for me. It is a very nice unit though.
