Brake Pad question?

Just pulled a front wheel and looked at the pads. 3/16" left on the inside one. 4/16" left on the outside one. It took 74000 miles to wear them this much. Will they do a 10 thousand mile trip to Alaska? Or had I better replace them?

You didn't mention whether you were taking the camper. If I were going, I would want all the mechanicals to be in top condition. The fact that you are asking the question tells me you nervous about the brakes. For peace of mind, change them. I would suggest Performance Friction Carbon Metalic.

Absolutely the camper goes. Most of the miles on the truck are with the camper on.

I am not the least bit nervous about the brakes. If the forum says they will do it, they stay on.

My concern is money. It needs tires, transmission service and a bunch of filters and parts to lug along. I would like to put injectors in before I go but they may be the straw that breaks the bank.

I would definately change them, there is a lot of nothing on the way to AK, hard to get parts if one of the pads should fail. Most of the pads I have seen fail at mileage over 50K have had the lining come off.

You're not going to be using the brakes much on the way to and from Alaska, you'll probably fine. But when you need them you need them. Pads are cheap, rotor damage isn't.
