I have an 04 3500 quad cab dually that pulls a heavy trailer..... This truck works 80% loaded... We use the exhaust brake all the time... . The truck now has 95K miles. .

We just pulled an inspection of the brakes... I really expected to change the pads... . all 4 inner pads were at about 40% of new thickness and the outer pad was closer to 55% of new thickness... ... .

Frankly we were amazed that we had that much left... as the trailer often goes to 18-20K... . However the new trailer has power disc brakes... a wonderful feature... . Thought we'd share that with the group. .

BTW - the lift pump failed and took out the CP3 pump about 5K miles ago and after a melt down with the dealer over some issues they picked up(DC that is) the cost of the repair.....

So we'll hit the 100K mark with one full set of tires... . at 65K, Lube Oil Service every 6-7K and 2 fuel filters.....

For the second 100 K were going to install a helper lift pump, and chase down a vibration under heavy load... . either a transmission bearing or a pinion bearing I'm sure... .

What were the issues? Aftermarket bedliner void the engine warranty?

The truck is stock except for bed liner, side steps, mud flaps, etc... they told me it was out of warranty... . as the lift pump is not part of the 100K engine warranty... . and since the lift pump caused the high pressure pump failure it wasn't covered... .

The key here is they spent the better part of 10 shop days messing with it..... and as I talked to them each day... they said they were working on it... . Of course I kept track of how many days it sat in the lot untouched.....

 Things like this are why I have almost 0 faith in the "warranties" on these trucks.

Just had the brake pads replaced on my truck yesterday at 178,956 miles. On the way back from New Iberia, La. , I noticed a grinding and when I stopped for fuel, I could see the right rear inner pad was gone and scraping the rotor. Had to go another 150 miles to get home then replaced the pads all the way around. The front pads had more than a third of the pad left, but the rear pads were about all gone. Seems backwards to me, but that is the way it was. Still think this truck has better brakes than most sports cars. Considering the weight of this truck, you can shut it down in one heck of a hurry if you have to.

Boy can you shut them down I had a ford owner with me getting a transmission jack at the rental shop (for his truck) We almost missed the entrance but I stopped and made the turn he just looked at me like how did you do that. I smiled and said well I could have stopped faster.

What did the rotors look like? Did you have to turn them or replace them?

The rotors were fine, the only one that was scarred was the right rear on the inside. The inside rears were the ones that had the most wear, the front could have gone a lot further and the outside rear were probably good for another 10k. I didn't turn any of them. My last truck went over 400k and I never turned the rotors.
