Well, I have 96k on my stock brake pads. I haven't checked them, but do imagine that they are getting thin. I'll be going with stock pads because I have never noticed them at all -- low dust and no squeaking (and good wear).

Even on my 95 CTD, DRW, the OEM pads went 75K+/-. When I sold the truck 2 or 3 years later the OEM rear shoes were still good.

I used HAWK... Good performance, horrbile dust. I dont think there was enough difference between the HAWK and OEM to justify the cost. I changed them cause I couldnt stand the squeal anymore... stick with OEM IMO.

Not saying anything bad about you pad choice because I know nothing about them but stoping our trucks is really nothing for the size of its brakes. Add the additional weight of a laden trailer and your choice may change.

Pads

I have 127k on my 05,,4x4 and tow a 32ft 5th wheel and the original brakes are still ok, thanks in part to my exhaust brake. If I have to replace them, I'll do it with original equipment.

Thanks again for all the input about brakes and brake pads. While removing my studded tires I thought it a good time to check the brake pads with only 49848 mi on my 05 Dodge 3/4 T 4x4 which I bought new. I see that most of you are getting very high miles on the stock pads. That is not the case with my rig. All four sets were worn severly and of course the fronts which always wear out first wore in such a manner if I would have waited for the squealer to come in contact with the rotor the other end of the pad would have been into the metal. Stock pads in this case didnt do very well. I dont ride the brakes and I drive my Jeep around town to keep milege low on my truck. My rotors are excellent so I bought a full set of Wagner pads at Oreillys and they seem to be very good.

Only 49k? Are you towing/hauling? And if so does the trailer have brakes? And if so are they appropriately adjusted?

Please say that you didn't get a set of Thermo-Squeals (Thermo-Quiets). I have those on my front brakes and hate them. They worked fine at first, but after awhile they started to squeal and produced a lot of brake dust. I was complaining about them in one of the local parts stores one day and the guy that worked there said that I wasn't the first person he heard that from. Though I will say that they do have decent stopping power and they lasted longer than the factory front pads, 62K vice 74K on the Wagners. I will be replacing them in the next week or so with a set of Monroe Dynamics as they are finally shot. I am running Monroe Dynamics on the rear and I am pleased with them. So far with 34K on the Monroes, no squealing and not a lot of dust. They replaced my factory original rear pads at 102K. That's why I got them for on the front as well.
