Brake pads

Ram factory brake pads seem to work fine with minimum dust and noise. I'm looking for a new set of pads that will perform as good as or better than the O.E. I know most folks on this forum are very particular about parts going in to their rigs. Any recommendations on brands that are the best and worst? My 2014 3500 is coming up on 49k, I still have plenty of pad remaining however I would like to change them out before winter.

Go with what you have. Most of us put the OEM brake pads right back in.

Be aware there are two grades from the dealer, OEM and Valueline. You want the OEM which should be around $125.00 or so.

The OEM pads in MOST cases go twice as long as the aftermarket or Valueline pads will.

mwilson, I see a picture of a Western Star 5700XE. I retired in 2009 after 37 years with Freightliner Corp. The last 7 yrs. spent with Western Star in Portland, Oregon. Thank You for your feedback, I will also check out Rock auto.

Scotty, I just checked this out quickly and he is correct. Go down to the "Daily Driver" category of Brake Pads, scroll down. The first Mopar shoes that come up are the "Valueline" or "V-Line" pads, go down a bit further and the OEM pads are there. Fronts are $97.00 and change from what I see.

I'm wondering if they put valueline on my tradesman because there is alot of brake dust?

They are the originals. They have only 45,000 on them. They are barely used since I always run EB and always leave plenty of distance in front of me

FCA doesn’t make most of the parts in your truck. Neither do any of the other auto manufacturers. Ever hear of Bosch, AAM, Dana, Delphi, BASF, Valeo, Bose, Borg Warner, Raybestos, Timkin, among others? Are you really this uninformed ?

Well, it is rare that a company (in my experience) will contract with 2 different competing suppliers for the same part. Maybe the rationale of that is why I am struggling. Or maybe the same supplier/manufacturer makes 2 different quality/price pads and offers them in the same deal at different prices?

Usually, going to the dealer you get ONE or nothing because they don't want to warranty a low quality product.

It's rare that there is only one supplier for a given part, especially commodity items. Best example of that is probably tires. Redundancy is what keeps the assembly line moving.

I don't have a problem with the quality of the braje pad. Just a little dustier than pads I've had on other vehicles that don't have and exhaust brake and with my same somewhat conservative driving style.

It could be that your other vehicles did not have spoke wheels.
