Brake problems, anyone else?

This may be long:



heres my story. I have an 03 4x4 quad cab dually. I had to have my rear rotors turned at 30k miles due to being warped. I just went back to the dealer today at 45K miles and now my rear rotors need replaced and fronts need to be turned, but the brake pads are good.



I occasionally haul a 18' 2000lb trailer with brakes on both axles with a jeep wrangler on it. Total weight of the trailer is 6000lbs. I also use a brake controller.



I also have a cabover camper that can exceed 4000lbs That i have used very little but have hauled it in the bed of the truck with the trailer in tow with the jeep on it.



I do live at 7200' above sea level in mountainous terrain.



Im an avid "down shifter" using the trucks gearing to slow down and im very light on the brakes.



I never had brake issues on my 95 cummins or my 2001 cummins. They both had DANA axles on them.



My theory is that AAM axles are using inadequate rotors on their axles but im not sure... its just specualation. I contacted wilwood brakes and baer brakes to find out if i can get a big brake kit from them with no reply yet.



Before you tell me, i know i need to get an Exhaust brake... that is going on with the new rotors when i find a big kit.



So after this long story... . anyone else have any similar issues or brake stories they would like to share?



Also is there a way I can convince the dealership to help pay for this since its only been 15k miles?(i know im probably spitting in the wind on this one but it cant hurt!)

Not really any help but it is the first time I have heard of any problems with the 3rd gen brakes with rotor warping. Surpising your second gen did not have similar problems as the brakes on those trucks are known for having problems. Must be something wrong with your truck that is not a common problem, maybe have an independent outfit check it over.

Assuming you've had your tires rotated, was a torque wrench used (properly) on the lugs?

I quit using a certain well-known tire chain after two different stores warped two different sets of rotors on my van. I guess I'm slow, but I finally caught them just making a show of using the torque wrench.

In my opinion improper wheel installation is probably the #1 cause of warped rotors.

I had a similar problem on my old GMC gasser. After a complete brake job my Midas the rear drums warped. They turned them and they warped again, then the front rotors warped. Long story short the e brake cable was adjusted to tight(which I had to point out to them). If you havent had any brake work done recently maybe the e brake cable is hanging up due to corrosion, mud, frozen slush etc.

I have my tires rotated every 7500 miles or so. The torque specs are stamped right on the lug nuts, so i go by that number. I have had my rotors warped on my grand cherokee from over tightening the lugs, it just doesnt seem logical to me that this could happen on our " heavy duty" trucks, but anything is possible.



I will check on the parking brake cable. . thanks for the suggestion.
