hi guys this is my first post . I am having brake problems have replaced power steering pump 4 times twice with Borgeson units, new steering box new hydro boost new power steering hoses and new brake calipers . Still have the hard pedal but not always usually in city driving stoplight to stoplight, when it does, it, growls only thing original in brake system is steel lines and abs pump. no codes on abs system . I'm tired of throwing money at this problem. Any ideas, thx in advance for help.

I presume you have replaced (completely bleed out the old brake fluid)?

Correct PS fluid (yes it matters in Dodge)?

Master Cylinder issues?

yes I have changed all fluid and master cylinder also have changed front wheel bearings both sides and abs sensor on rear. I am out of ideas on this problem . thx sam

You say you hear a "growl" when you experience the hard pedal?

That sounds like it could be the ABS activating.

You could try operating it for awhile with the ABS disconnected to see if the symptoms go away.

If ABS is activating it pulsates the pedal to stop lock up . Not sure it's a ABS issue no ABS light on.....

From 96 FSM. Hard Pedal or High pedal effort.
"Hard pedal or high pedal effort may be due to lining that is water soaked, contaminated, glazed or badly worn. The Power Booster or check valve could also be faulty."

I have just put on new pads and shoes not 3 months ago not showing any strange ware on them.Where is the hydroboost check valve at thx again Sam

You say "pads and shoes" which indicates the truck is earlier than 02. If you have the vacuum booster then your vacuum pump or line may be the problem. If you have the vacuum booster the check valve would be where the hose connects to the booster. bg

You really have to work to get the air out of the system on the hydro boost trucks. Growling sounds like trapped air to me. Also, how did you clean the system after failure? I presume you didn't just change all the parts at once?

guys have found that it is in abs system removed abs fuse fixed growl and peddle problems . Now I have to find witch speed sensor it is . thx for all the help Sam

Possibly a sensor. There is one in both front hubs, if you have 4wheel ABS, and one in the rear axle. If you have an auto, there is also a speed sensor in the transmission that could affect it.... but it should have shifting issues.... Any typically, sensor failure throws the light in the dash.

Could be the ABS module, itself. They are prone to failure and don't throw a dash light most of the time... not as prone as the earlier '99-2000 model modules, but still pretty bad. They just crap out for no reason and without warning. I've replaced one on an '05 Jeep and a '00 Dodge in the last month. They can be rebuilt, however.

www.modulemaster.com offers a rebuild service for $130+shipping.

Various other sites offer the module for around $250.... I often find one in the boneyard, as well. My local yards know me, so they offer me a warranty.

One such site that sells new/reman'd ones.... http://www.autopartsfair.com/dodge-usedparts/ram_2500_pickup-2002-abs_control_modulepump.html
