2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brake Proportion Link (rod)- How Come Off?

Just put new shoes and bigger brake cylinders on the truck but I still don't think it's right. I want to try to tie the valve in the full open position like suggested in many old posts but I cannot figure out how to get the rod off the lower mount point. I'm butchering the heck out of it and if I don't find the right way this comes apart I'll have it destroyed soon.

it is just a plastic ball and socket joint, a stout screw driver pryed mine right off.

Where exactly is this thing located? Is it on 4WD's only?

If you have it it's easy to see; it has a rod that connects down by the left lower shock bolt and runs up to under the bed where the valve is.
