Hay fellas. where is a good place to get new brake rotors for my 97 4 X 4. Also what is the size of the big ol nut I need to take off to get to the rotors? Thanks

Avoid Brakes R us.

They handle EBC slotted and dimpled rotors.

Worse customer service I ever had.

Lousy products.

The front axle nut is 1 11/16". Mine were on really tight. You will also need to pull the hub/bearing assembly off to get the rotors off. I recommend having at least a 5 pound slide hammer. I just rebuilt the front end on my 96. It was a two day job due to the difficulty in getting the hubs off, especially the passenger side. I went with the EGR slotted rotors and carbon kevlar pads with SS brake lines.

Personally, I used a 3-legged puller (although a 4-legged one would be better with an 8-stud configuration), as I believe it is less likely to damage the bearing/hub assembly. I read of bearing/hub separation using a slide hammer (probably due to severe shock loading). I also believe it is worthwhile to use a penetrating oil (spray is preferable) ahead of time to aid in hub/bearing removal from the axle splines. [JMO]

I also went with the EGR slotted rotors, carbon/Kevlar pads and Teflon/Kevlar/stainless steel brake hoses.
