Hi all,

Just bought my second Dodge Ram. After years of driving Ford and GM, I converted to Dodge/ Cummins in Jan '04. I had to sell my '99 2500 with my boat as the new owner needed something to tow her home with. After 6 months of searching for the right truck (couldn't decide on the newer 3rd gen accompanied with a high car note or to go with a 2nd gen and pay it off quickly), I finally settled on the 2001 3500 DRW 4x4 6 spd. Most of the towing done will be under 8,000 lbs but I will occasionally tow my 13,000 lb boat from Texas to the West Coast. My main concern will be stopping. Sure the boat trailer will have brakes on it but I would like to have some sort of brake upgrade on my rig just to assure stoppage. Therefore, I was wondering whether anybody on here had any suggestions as to which way to go with this process. I am considering just replacing the rotors with slotted/ drilled ones that are found on ebay. They claim 200-250 deg cooler operating temperatures. Is this the way to go? Can I just order larger brakes? Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid about stoppage but the truck does have a six inch lift and 40" tires on it. If I keep those on the rig won't she be be strainnig to stop with 15,000 lbs behind her (boat+trailer)? I am picking the truck up in FL this weekend.

Thanks for any advice.
