I've been having trouble with my cruise control lately... and my brake lights remain on occasionally. I have been pulling out lightly on the brakelight switch to get by... but bought a new replacement "speed control" version of the switch and I'm ready to put it in.
I'm reading the 1995 manual on my Ram truck, however, and the procedure has me a bit baffled. Under the section "Brakelight Switch Adjustment and Installation" (page 5-19 in my manual) step 1-(b) says... "Push switch plunger inward 4 detent positions (or clicks). This is required preset position for switch installation. Plunger will extend approximately 14 mm (0. 55 in. ) out of housing at this setting. "
Well folks the brand new "SPD CONT" brakelight switch in my hand has only about an 1/8 of an inch of travel in it... is smooth... and has no detents or clicks as it is depressed/released.
Can someone out there in TDR-land clue me in on this procedure and why my switch does not behave as suggested in the manual? Or perhaps better yet... how to make my switch work as suggested in the manual?
Please advise, and thank you for your time.
Kevin
