Ok, most if not all 98 2500 owners know hpow the stock brakes are. They leave much to be desired.
I replaced the front pads and did the rear shoes. While in there I did spring kits and the large wheel cylinders. They may have improved, if so...not much.
I'd love to just drop $1000 or $1500 and have it done the way it should have been built. With rear discs, but I dont have that much money to spare.
Can/should I upgrade the master cylinder next?
I'm searching this topic and seems like a "1 5/16" bore" master cylinder comes up often.
The problem is I cant get a good usable part number.
Can I use one from a 2002 dodge? I think the 02 has rear discs, so I dont think it'll work.
Oh, just to make things more difficult, I have 4 wheel ABS.:{

I know its more than likely not what you want to hear but I think my brakes are pretty strong. And in saying that, just a few weeks ago I had my first "real" panic stop situation where I had to grab some serious pedal in a hurry. The tires locked up and the anti-lock engaged, while everything inside the cab went flying and the truck shot a little sideways and abruptly came to a stop.

Here's a chart showing that the brakes did evolve over time on the 2nd gen trucks. http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/brakespecs.htm So you could either try some junkyard swapping or go all 3rd gen front brakes. That said, if you happen to have the adjustable rear axle proportioning valve then you'll maybe want to try and tie the lever upwards or fully disable it all together. :)

I don't have any complaints about my brakes either. There have been several articles over the years in the magazine. Perhaps a review will point you to your goal.
