2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bumper Question

The last couple days I decided to put on a new set of shoes and pads. When I was doing the front, I compressed the front calipers with a C-clamp without opening a bleeder screw. Enough pressure built up until fluid came out on top of the master cylinder. I ignored that, put on the brakes and started the truck. I had no brakes on the front it seemed and my ABS and park light were on. I drove it again the next morning and the lights were gone, however still no more brake. Tonight I tackled the front bleeder screws, hoping for air and with some struggle, one opened up. Turned out the one on the drivers side was the first and I backed it all the way out. Not a drop of fluid to be seen. Now, this got me to thinking... what did I do? I'm getting some new calipers tomorrow but I'm still not so sure that's the fix. Any suggestions?

You MAY have pushed debris into the ABS unit when the fluid returned to/thru the master. This has been a debated topic here with many saying they've spread calipers like you did for years w/o problems, others attesting you need to push the resident fluid out the bleed port rather than back into the system. Good Luck with the fix, whatever the problem.

I used to push fluid back into system when I did brakes on stuff but no more. I always flush new fluid through the systems now anyway so why risk pushing crud back into the master cylinder. Something may have gotten in something up stream.
