I am having some trouble with a friends 82 D350 and need some suggestions today while I'm in Atlanta. The truck had power brakes when new, but someone had drilled holes in the firewall and put in a manual master cylinder. I got a power brake booster off of my 85 crew cab and installed it in the 82, bolted in perfectly. Both trucks are dually D350 automatic 360 trucks. Went to Napa and got a master cylinder that is for an 85 D350, since the 82 was seperate reservoir and we didn't have one. Put it on, bled everything, took it for a test drive. Pedal goes too far down before the brakes grab, but then they almost lock the wheels all of a sudden. With the motor off, the brakes feel like they have the right amount of travel. This booster worked fine on the 85, but feels like it gives WAY too much power assist now. Do you guys have any idea why?

Thanks,

Jim

I agree with steveinaz. Legthen the rod, this will bring the booster closer to the master cylinder, shortening the travel of the pedal. You can go too far, which will apply the brakes all the time, but with good brakes it will be noticable drag.
