Is there anything that can be done to get more thatn 20K out of front disk pads?

Not a hard driver nor panic stops.

Also, idler arm and pitman arm failed at 31K. My front end man can only say "WELCONE TO DODGE". :(

Are the front pads wearing evenly?

If your caliper slides seize up then you'll end up wearing one pad down very quickly. The slides are the steel tubes that the bolts that hold the calipers on go through. I have a spare set that I use to pound the old ones out with and then leave the new one in. Make sure you use good quality caliper grease (high temp) and then clean up the slide you took out on a wire wheel and grease it up so you can do the next one. I do mine every oil change because I live in a very corrosive enviroment.

Both wearing about the same, but sounds like a good idea to keep them freed up. I understand the new trucks have bigger pads and last longer... probably be expensive to upgrade from 02 to 05.

Rear pads are still good at 50K. I wonder if the proportioner gets out of wack?

Are you driving an Automatic or Stick  Most folks I know who own Automatics wind up replacing the front pads between 30,000 and 45,000 miles. With a stick it is alot longer.

Brakes

Exhaust Brake, I do have a 6sp but I have 75000 and my brakes still are at least 75% and I do pull a 5er. Exhaust brake was my first mod well worth it.
