Yes. its not the brake that causes the failure ,its the lock to lock shifting you need to do to use the brake effectively that can break the shaft. The lock to lock shifting is hard on the entire trans,but it is necessary to use the brake. If you just used the Ebrake in OD,and didnt allow the trans to downshift locked the stress wouldnt be all that bad on the trans,provided you have the valve body and trans set up properly for the brake. My advice is to get the billet shaft,once you use the E brake,it is so awesome you will use it all the time.
 
Please elaborate on this 'Snow Man'. What is lock to lock shifting, and why is it required?

Lock to Lock shifting is nessesary to keep the converter locked in order to prevent unlocked converter slippage which creates trans overheating very fast. However locked downshifts are harsh on the entire trans due to the forces that are transmitted thru the shafts (And clutches and bands for that matter) the greater the load the greater the forces.
