Break-in Too Late??

After deciding I could not afford or justify it,the dealer called back and we struck a deal. Now I am the proud owner of my first diesel truck. With 4500 dealer/salesman miles,should I be concerned with break-in at this point ?... . they have also included an oil change to be done within a couple weeks ,is it too soon to take out the factory oil /cocktail?... . have read several links advising not to baby the truck as you will end up with a baby truck..... does this mean I should be aggressive on the trottle after warm-ups?... . heavy footed?... . I understand long idles are out of the question... ... ... . WILL BE A DAILY DRIVER,VERY LIMITED TOWING,SEA LEVEL=NO HILLS/FUN

Your new CTD will continue to break in and improve it's performance for at least another 10K to 15K. It takes longer if you don't tow or work it very hard. It really doesn't matter how much you baby it or work it hard - It's a Cummins and it will outlast the rest of the truck.

I'd change the oil right now. The salesmen probably used the loud pedal enough to ensure good break in. Don't worry, just drive it normally and as noted above, some moderate towing helps.



Just for comparison, I put 300 miles on my '04, then towed my 5500 lb trailer to Tulare and back (700 miles) at the speed limit. I changed the oil when I got back.
