Just picked up our 2018 Laramie Longhorn DRW with the Aisin transmission last Friday and finished our first 500 miles. According to manual the first 500 miles towing a trailer (no mention of weight limit) needs to be done at under 50 mph. Now the problem of finding roads we can pull our 15k fifth wheel on at less than 50 mph and not cause serious road rage. Love the truck though. How strictly did you guys follow this little rule?

500 miles at less than 50 mph? What was the author smoking? Times sure have changed. In '97 it was hook up and go.

We didn't remember doing it with the '06 we traded in. But we will give it our best shot since it what's in the manual.

Your 97 did not have an AAM rear axle. The break in is for the diff not the Cummins.

We drove our new RAM in Sept 2015 1350 miles in the first 48 hours. We started our slow from John Elway's dealership in Greeley, Co going up 287 to Laramie. Got on I-80 and slow built up to 80 MPH. 407 miles the first afternoon, 660 miles the next day, and 290 miles the next morning. Diff fluid and gears looked great at fluid change.

WOW... Took us a week to get our first 500 miles solo. Will start after the holiday to put the towing miles on. Thanks for the help. You guys are all great on here.

Oops! I had 3600 miles on the clock at our first tow with our 2018 3500 Aisin. 200 miles round trip @ 65mph. Wonder if I ruined the rear end by not towing @ 50mph?

With about that many miles we hooked up to our 29' 5th wheel and headed off to Arizona. Figured the rear diff was broken in by then.
