Do the factory dodge front or rear for that matter have some sort or warning squeek tab when the pads get close to being warn out? I have a little over 110K miles on my dully towing mostly at 25K lbs with an exhaust brake. I only have the one brake squeaking at the moment, "front drivers" and if I apply a slight foot pressure the noise goes away. I took a quick look and the pads still have some life left not much but I figure 3/16" to 1/8" worth of pad left.

Ok that is good and bad news... good that it isn't metal to metal. . bad that I need to do it soon. Any idea how long you went past the initial squeal? I have 1 more trip less the 1K miles mostly highway so I figure I should be ok until I get back.

The tabs would be metal so you are metal to metal and it will eventually leave a nasty scar in your rotors. Probably wouldn't matter though, it's been my experience that when it comes time for a brake job there hasn't been enough metal left to be able to turn the rotors.

With the procut on car lathe I use I have been able to machine front rotors 3 times for some of my customers who are not abusive. Almost all will go twice.

You should be good. My brakes had been squeaking for almost six months, but I actually thought it was my rears . Rotors were good, no discernible damage. I didn't even have to turn them and I don't have the slightest hint of them being warped (first time I've ever seen that). Back to day-one brakes.

I've owned several trucks and have not seen the tattle tail on any of the pads on the trucks I've owned and just looked at the pads on my BIL's dually and they have no tattle tails... he has a full set of OEM replacement pads that are still boxed. . they don't have them either...

One of the main causes of squeaks is a high speed vibration caused by dust... I've blown them out, washed them out with a garden hose and the squeak is gone for a while. .

Like Bob 4x4 when we'd turn them in the shop, we'd only take off what was needed to clean them up. . since disc brakes don't care if one is . 050" thicker than another we'd just clean them up..... often giving back rotors that will go another life cycle... however some of the extreme full metallic brake pads will wear the rotors faster than other products and yes they stop faster and don't fade as much but fully exceed the design standards of the factory pads...

I just did the brakes on the rear of my 05 dually, with 130K miles and expect the fronts to go to 145 or so before they need work. . but I just pull 15K lbs and don't drive over the speed limit and use the exhaust brake... .

Just my thoughts... .
