Breakaway cable problem

Where would you put temp. gauge

TT rental? Somewhere between TN and MA

I had my breakaway cable pull out and activate the trailer brakes 3 times on my last trip. Fortunately it happened at very slow speeds, while pulling out of truck stops and such. Is there a fix for this. I wonder if a longer cable would help. It seemed to be getting caught up on the hitch and or the rails. It is a Pullrite, non slider.

Thanks for any tips.

I think you have the answer there. I had the same thing happen once when I had to make a very tight turn leaving a pump. At first I thought I had taken out the pump!

Mine is about 3' long and I hook it to the hitch jaw pull handle with its own clip (so there is no way it can get free by itself). Even then it had some slack in it.

I tested it initially by jack knifeing the truck to its max (90*) then seeing where a good place to hook it was.

Just what I did with mine.

Maybe a little velcro strip on the frame of the hitch, then the breakaway pull wire, then a little thin velcro strip over the pull wire sort of like a velcro pull wire sandwich (light weight so it would easily open if the occassion ever arose) to help it keep from getting caught up in the hitch frame?

Good Luck,

Bob Weis
