Breakover springs function

What exactly is the Breakover Spring? What is its function? In checking with my service manual (one of my better xmas gifts) I noticed that mine is incorrect. I did change the adjustment rod this past summer and I just threw it on. I am now going outside to adjust to the proper setting but wondered what it does.

I wondered too. It seems that it provides a little tolerance between the throttle linkage and beginning movement of the injector pump. If it did not have that your throttle would activating/effecting the pump all the time. Other than that I'm wondering too.

Watch your throttle linkage as you get someone to do a wot. [engine off of course] The break over is there to protect your pump, otherwise you would end up pulling on the shaft & wearing out the bushing in no time flat.

I did make my adjustments this past weekend. The little rod was starting to wear into the spring. I assumed that was what a Breakover spring did for its job, to save the pump. I seemed to have lost just a very little bit of my upper end but that is fine with me knowing that my pump will last that much longer. Now I just need to tune my TPS and it should be running super. Overdrive seems to lag sometimes going into it. I replaced it not very long ago but I never checked it then. Maybe I just need a shift kit to have it shift the way I would like it to. Have never adjusted the bands either but plan on doing that next filter change. This truck would continue to run forever if I just left it alone. But with the help of everyone on this forum, it is running better and better instead of just running. Thanks to all.
