Briar Hoppers Lift Pump Test Gauge

I bought one of Briar Hoppers Lift Pump test gauges and I have to tell you guys, it's a slick little test rig. It has a 0-30psi gauge on a long (4ft?) high pressure hvac hose. The fittings are all solid brass and connects to the VP44 at the output

port of the lift pump with no leaks anywhere. There is enough hose that you can tape the gauge to the windshield for measurements under load.

I just used Briar Hoppers test gauge last night for the first time. I now know that my lift pump puts out 15psi with the engine off (starter bump) and at idle it runs 14psi. Under cruise mode at 50MPH it holds 13. 5psi and WOT it never falls below 6psi (I can only keep it there for a few seconds before it starts back up). ;)

I must have got a good Lift Pump!

I think Tom could be persuaded into making some more of these kits, I don't want to post his e-mail here in the forums, but he might when he sees this.

Me Too

I too bought one of Briar's test gauges. Worked great, my pump showed 15 psi at idle and a low of 8. 5 for a couple seconds before returning to 10 during a WOT run up a long grade. Nice test instument.

Thanks for the kind words, guys, glad you like them. For those of you with 24 Valve trucks older than 2001, I have fittings that will work for making a "test port" out of the threaded ports on top of your fuel filter housing. The test gauge then simply attaches to the fitting, just like it does to the pump fitting on 2001's.

And it can be left in place, without fuel leaks.

Anybody that wants a gauge, just PM me through this website.

Great picture, Mick, thanks. My PM box is getting full of requests for information, and to order this gauge...

So I'd like to ask anyone that wants one to email me at -- email address removed --

I'm not selling these to make money, but to help anyone that needs it. TDR members need only send me a check. For non-TDR members, no offense but I'll need a money order.

HEY, whats that cool blue thing holding the coil together? All I got was some cheesy wire twist tie from some vegetable bag! I got ripped. I want a refund! Tom you need to work on your quality control!!

KentOo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. (I like this guy)

You're killing me, Kent ! :-laf Actually, those are the twist ties that hold the clothes hangers together, when the uniform company delivers my clown suits to the factory I work at. :D

It's a briarhopper test gauge, okay? ("briar hopper" is a semi-derogatory Kentucky term for a hillbilly)

I have electrician's plastic tie wraps that would look better, but you'd just slice the hose trying to get it apart... :p

I knew I should have used the black electrical tape on yours, Kent ! Leaving a black messy, gummy residue on the hose and your hands... :)

Well now mine's held together with ultra trick Nasua357 black duct tape that I recycled from it's former use holding the gauge to the windshield. I've bombed my new gauge already! Sure wish I had one of those cool coathanger ties though!

Sheeeeeeesh! Can't please 'em all can ya Tom? :p

I would be willing to guess you are left handed

too... ... my ORIGINAL test gauge twistie was green and twisted COUNTERCLOCKWISE! Just like my leftie wife does the bread wrapper.

Kent, the really cool blue stuff is velcro. One side is loops the other side is hooks. We used 'em at work years ago for securing cable assemblies for shipping.

Mick

Oh, so now the man wants blue velcro... . :D Don't the rest of y'all don't go getting no fancy ideas, it'll get shipped safe & sound, but bells & whistles will cost ya extry... :D

Yup, Mick, I'm a southpaw. So are most of my mechanically gifted buddies, 80% of the maintenance crew where I work is... we all get a laugh out of it every now and then. We need a Doc Tinker poll on the TDR, lefties vs. righties. Care to start one? :D

Alright Tom! I was all set to put my check in the mail and now I find out you're a lefty!!!! I'm not sure if I can do business with a lefty. :D :D :D Of course a little of that pretty blue velcro and maybe I could be convined... ..... ;)

update on ordered gauges

Everybody, I received so many orders, I had to place a special order at the local supply house. They've informed me that I should have the parts by Wednesday the 20th, or Thursday the 21st. Meaning, it will be Thursday or Friday at the latest before I can ship them out. My apologies for the delay.
