Was doing some basic maintenance on the truck and noticed the rear tire treads look very worn. I could see the wear indicators were even with the tread blocks. Went to front and they look brand new.



These tires have 9800 miles on them. They have not been rotated and they have been used to tow our 11k 5er 100% of those 9800 miles. Tire inflation is always 70-75 psi. I have never done a burnout...



I know these are my drive axle tires, but only 9800 miles ??



I will rotate them this winter and hope to get another 10k out of the set.



These tires have been great for traction and are very quiet on the highway, but if you are looking for new tires and you tow alot, do not get these.



They are LT265/70-17E and are the REVO 2's (with the odd looking tread design).



I will step up to 285/70-17E for the next set... any recommendations for a good towing/highway tire??

The Bridgestone Revos are basically the opposite of Michenlin tires. Great traction but poor life. Also you may not be burning rubber, but our cummins makes enough torque to spin them just a wee little bit while speeding up which wears down faster than the front. My friend's dodge dually wears out several sets of rear tires before he changes the front. This is while hauling a 10 ton gooseneck float.

In about 15k I had a set of 325/60/18 Toyo AT's into the wear bars, they had been rotated. Les Schwab gave me an adjustment and made me a good buy on the Toyo MT's I am running now, however with 7k on them, they look like they are fading fast also.



An acquaintance of mine has been running Hankook Dynapro's, he says they have been working out very well on his CTD. I am not sure what my next tire will be, but pretty certain it will not be Toyo's.

JJPage: that's odd the Toyo MTs are wearing fast on your truck. They've been great for me as I have almost 44,000 miles on my set of 315/75/16. And I also know that people with a lot power can't feel the tires spinning even a little. Dodges are pretty famous for this. Several of my buddies with different brand tires on their dodges all wore faster at the rear. Including the dually mentioned above.

My Toyo AT's yielded 36K. I bought them used @21K from a friend who never rotated or rebalanced them. I bought them and forged rims from him,rotated and rebalnced them once only. Both owners carried cabovers 24/7 on them. They did wear prematurely in the middle due to overinflation though.



My Mt's look like they'll wear forever.

Weird, I've had three sets of Revo 2s and not one problem. I've always towed heavy and spend alot of time off road. My first set I got 60K miles out of them. My second set I still have on my '06 with around 50K miles on them and they look about half wore out. My third set I have on my '97 with around 45K miles on them and they look new. I would recommend these tires to anyone.

Tramplineman: Now that's good to see. I haven't heard much of the A/T 2 except the ones on my buddy's 2010 Ram 2500. They're wearing quick at the rear so it has something to do with their driving style. They're professional loggers so they're in the bush quite a bit.

The first Revos wear fast. I had a set myself on my 1997 ranger.

My Toyo 285-75-17 AT's had a 600# higher load capacity than my new Toyo MT's of the same size. You wouldn't know it by the way they both handle.

Yeah I had the same AT. For whatever reason,Toyo rates the 285-75-17 MT @ 3195 @ 65psi. Change to a 295 and it's back at a whopping 3900#. My favorite tire was the Toyo M-55 which I had on my '98. 5. Kinda in between in the tread dept. Quieter than my MT's,but they do sing at 50-65 mph. I didn't feel that immediate drag as the MT's cause over the AT's.



A guy here in the neighborhood with a Holy Grail '03 qcsb HO 6-speed,towed a Toyhauler to Honduras and back three years ago w/Toyo MT's. No flats and he claimed to air down to 10 psi in one instance. He's running the same tires currently. Plenty of tread left.

I've been really satisfied with my Nitto Dura Grapplers, 285/70/17. Very strong tire, although I don't tow really heavy. With my 8,000# camper, and a full bed, and full cab, I towed at 65-70 mph for several hours straight during summer, and my rear tires never even felt warm. When towing, I run them at 60 psi. They don't bulge at 60 with all that weight and they ride softer than at higher pressure. Wear is perfectly straight across, never had a leak. Good in the snow the first year, but then switched to Blizzaks for the next 2 winters (on separate rims from tire rack).
Nitto is also making a newer tire called Crosstek HD, which looks to be more highway oriented than even the Dura Grappler, with even better wear characteristics. I'll be looking for reviews on these.

I had them on my '98. 5. I loved them. Unfortunately,despite group and individual e-mails petitions Toyo won't release any in an oversized 17". They are listed on the Toyo website.

Roughly 40,000. Almost no highway miles, unless I'm pulling a camper. I will probably get 50,000 out of these. 99% of my miles are around town, stop and go, and rarely getting up to 60 mph. If I was on the highway most of the time, I would safely say I could get at least 70,000 out of a set.
I was talking to our local tire guy who sells Nitto, and he said they started selling Nitto a few years ago. According to him, they are really impressed with them, saying they are a really good tire. (He wasn't trying to sell me some, we were just talking, and he wasn't being a schmuck).
I'm interested in the Crossteks, from Nitto, but haven't seen many reviews yet. More highway biased than even the Dura Grapplers, which may be fine, since I have 4WD. And are advertised to last even longer. My tire guy said they were about $215 for 285/70/17.

LRutigliano, I'm not so sure that is your wear indicator. I just grabbed a quarter and measured it with my tread gauge indicator, and it looks like you still have 7/32" there. If those tires are "snowflake" rated, that indicator may just be the one that tells you they aren't suitable for winter use, anymore. That depth is where my Nitto Dura Grapplers are now, and when spring comes along they will go back on my truck until they are done. . probably until fall.

Also, on the very edge of your tire, you will see several indicators that say something like "twi" (Tread Wear Indicator). Those are lined up with your true indicators. (on Michelins, the TWI is a picture of "Bibendo", (the Michelin man). Who says the French don't have a sense of humor?...

Yes Firestone Trans Force LT 235/85R 17 they will have a little more tread than most tires. I had them put what look like white sand in them. That way you do not need ever to balance them. I got 50. 000 miles and that was pulling my fifth wheel 38Ft total weight when leaving home is always a round 23. 000 and that is running at inter state speeds and +5. I jest replace them with the same tire. Only becaws they are 5 years old I am a snow bird and did not want any tire trouble on the road. GOOD LUCK

LRutigliano: I just remembered, those tires look like the first Revo, not the Revo2. My buddies have the Revo and Revo2 on each of their trucks.
