I've got a '95 bombed 2500 which I've owned for a year and a half. I've thought about a Brite Box, but have about decided to do it myself with the following set-up.

Whaddya think guys? Willit work?

The relay I'm going to be using has 4 posts. 2 posts open/close the relay's internal switch and 2 carry the load (up to about 20 Amps).

I'll splice into the high-beam wire and using one relay, connect the high beam wire to a relay "switch" post, grounding the other relay "switch" post. Then connect one of relay "load" posts to 12V+ and the other "load" post to the low-beam headlight leads.

Then, the way I see it, when the switch is pulled out and you are on low beam, all the juice is going thru the dash-mounted switch but can't go through the high beam circuit because the relay is open. When you switch to high beams, the relay closes and both high and low light up but the low-beam juice is now going through the relay.

What am I missing?? Anything??

Robert,

If I read your post correctly it will work. I'd fuse the power source and use a decent quality relay. I've used the 30amp rated relays from Radio Shack with good success, they cost $5 or $6 and are manufactured in England. If you want to do a forum search, there are several posts about using relays to avoid the BB price. ;)

Thanks Roger, yup a fuse would be good that's for sure. And did I read your reply right?... do you really have FOUR Dodge/Cummins Turbodiesels!? (I'm jealous!)

Several years ago I had a girlfriend who had a '76 Jag with a Chevy 350/350 stuffed under the "bonnet". I decided to restore it and when I got to the door/windows I began to buy used Caddy A/C relays from the junkyard for the power-windows, power-door locks. I bet I used about 15 Caddy A/C relays on that old Jag, but the windows and doorlocks sure worked great.

'Fraid so......

Don't be jealous about the four, actually Cummins/Dodges are a jealous harem and it sure is tough trying to provide proper attention:D. I'm in central MO (know Monett) but this spring spent some time in Santa Monica for the first time, neat area.

Robert,

That's exactly how I have my '95 wired. Total cost less than $15 including the Radio Shack project box. I also have it wired so that my bright running lights are also on when the high beams are on. Gives me a fighting chance to avoid deer on US101.
