As you may or may not know, up here in Canada all vehicles must have daytime running lights. I have just installed a brite box with FLC. Since the daytime running lights, use the highbeams (with reduced power) my foglights are always on.

Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone disabled the daytime running lights? I know I can put the parking brake on slightly, but the flashing brake light would drive me nuts. Can the brite box be modified to work with Canadian vehicles?

I am going to contact Baker Auto, and see what they have to say, but I figured I will try here first.

Carl,

A few months ago I was considering getting the bite box. Being that I am also here in Canada that was a concern for me as I had heard others had difficulty with the Brite box on Canadian vehicles. I did contact Brite box http://www.thebritebox.com/index.html

and the answer I got is the truck needs to be set in US mode. They said that any Dodge dealer should be able to do this and your daytime running lights will still work just now running off the low beams I believe. Then the system will work as advertised, note that I have not done this myself so I would suggest giving Brite Box a call to verify what I said.

Hope this helps

I contacted Baker Auto, and they told me the same thing, the truck has to be set to US mode. I phone my dealer (Derrick Dodge in Edmonton) and they said it could be done, but it is illegal and would cause the lamp out display to stay on, they wouldn't do it.

Now I just need to find a dealer that can do it for me. I am not sure if my dealer fully understood that I don't want to disable my daytime running lights, I just want to come on with the low beams, not high beams.

I will phone a few more dealers and see if any other ones will do it for me. If not I will just have to put a switch on the fog lights so I can turn them off with the daytime running lights. I think I will just do this anyways, so I can turn of my foglights with my high beams if I want.

I had wondered about this also. My truck came from Canada but was "switched" over. I don't know what all was messed with but I know a few functions of the overhead are screwy. Ironically the overhead mileage is almost right on with the hand calculations with the mods I have made. My fog lights don't stay on and my daytime running lights still work but I'm still wondering if the bright box would work ok. I have the sport option also so I don't know if that complicates matters even more.

The 3G Ram can have it's lighting computer programmed to run either high or low beams as DRL's. To work with the Brite Box, you have to have the lows for DRL's. We probably have hundreds of Canadian customers, as well as many here in the states that have DRL's and Brite Boxes.

When programmed as such, I know of NO occurances of a lamp out light falsely illuminating. However, please be aware that the Brite Box is fully compatible with the lamp out system and it will light if in fact you have a burned out filament.

As far as complying with local laws, it is up to you to check. Does Canadian law require high beams over lows, or is any kind of DRL acceptable? FYI - the GM full size truck uses it's parking lights as DRL's, so I cannot see that "high beam DRL" is a requirement, but that is just my opinion. All I know is that all our neighbors up north that run the Brite Box are happy as can be.

If I was in your shoes, I would my truck programmed for low beam DRL's, and install the Brite Box if that is what you want. I have a 2004. 5 3500, and I cannot imagine driving at night without the extra output from my Brite Box + FLC + Fogzilla.

ODV is correct, you should be able to choose high or low beam. On my Durango, you can even set the voltage the bulb burns at.

I'll bet on coming vehicles love you!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I'd like to have hammer that I could throw at some of you guys that think the whole front of the vehicle in lights are cool without consideration for the anyone in front of you.

Sorry, but I just had to vent. :-{} I too have a Canadan rig (now in So Cal) and have thought about the brite lights to return the favor to individuals who always use their "fog" lights. But then there'd be two butt heads out there and maybe two S&Ws :--) Okay now I'm done whining :{

As soon as I turn on my headlights, the fog lights go off, and come back on only when the high beams are on. It is only during the day with the daytime running lights, that the fog lights are on. They shouldn't bother anyone during the day, I am just concerned about the extra wear on the bulbs. In addition since the glass is smashed out of both foglights, and only one bulb is still working, I doubt my foglights are bugging anyone right now.

I am a little concerned about the reliabillity of my brite box. I have been stuck out on a rig for the last 3 weeks and it has been raining every day for the last 10 days. The last time a drove my truck the foglights (or in my case the one remaining half ***** working foglight) stayed on after I shut off my truck. I am assuming the brite box got a little wet, and nolonger works properly. It is too muddy for me to check it out right now, but I will probally end up removing the brite box. Mud and water are something my truck sees alot of, and I can't have my batteries going dead due to a aftermarket accessory. :(
