Archived Broke an intercooler hose clamp!

Local 5-star doesn't have one in stock, so what are my choices?



Will a regular 4" hose clamp suffice? Does Napa carry something like this?



Closest clamp to the intercooler on passenger side... hose had moved a touch after many +45 PSI runs and so I slid it back and I guess I went just past the German torque spec of "goot-n-tite" .

Well, Napa had the type I wanted/needed, but not the right size. Was about 1/8" too big. I may go back and get it anyway, cause the one I ordered from the dealer won't be in till wednesday.



Looks like the rice around here is safe for 5 days... punks better watch out though

get some rubber strips (thicker the better---as long as its flexible enough to surround the hose) and make up the difference between the clamp and the hose. And then tighten it down.



Not the best repair... . and wouldnt use it for permenace. But it would hold you over til the dealer part came in.



At least the clamp is on the boost side... . dont have to worry about sucking crap into the engine if the clamp fails or comes loose again.

I have several clamps lying around, waiting for me to get an intercooler for my pickup. Too bad I didnt see the post before you went to Dodge, I could have sent one to you. I agree with EMD diesel power- The hose over hose will work. I have it on my non intercooled 91, plumbed to a PDR HX35. I'll post pics when I get them taken.



For future reference- Case IH has several applications that use B and C series engines. Everything on the farm I work on is Cummins powered- 4 tractors (one N14 even), combine, 4 trucks. Case or Cummins, if they are handy, are a lot cheaper than Dodge in most cases.

You have two addresses on your signin so I don't know where you are but you should always use a silicone type hose clamp in this application. The difference in the clamps is that there is a complete band on the inside of the clamp so the hose does not get damaged from the little grooves. Your local CAT dealer has a complete selection of these and you should be able to order it if they don" have it in stock. The good thing about CAT is most parts are available in one day--Good Luck

Well, crisis is over...



Thanks to those that recommended the "Big Rig" places. I totally forgot about the local place for the big guys, so decided to head there today and see what they had...



Right on the main sign of the place it says: "Cat hose and connections"



Go inside, show the guy the clamp and he goes and gets one from the back... 70-88mm. I take it outside and can't get it to start once on, so I go back in and ask for the next size up... . 90-100mm fits perfect!!!



Since the engine was warm, had to test it out and she's still holding the 47 PSI like before.



Oh, one thing I found too while checking all my hoses on saturday is that the lower intercooler hoses (the ones that connect to the intercooler) are both being rubbed through by the metal part of the fender. Both sides have it fairly bad, but they're not leaking... I'd take a pic for y'all, but you can't really see it... just feel it (it's in a really tight spot).



Thanks again. Saved $10 ($15 at "dealer" vs. $4. 87 at the other shop).
