Archived Broke on I-59 enroute to Montgomery...

6spd manual, heard a loud pop and she bucked, followed by some odd "grindy" noises.. Got to the side of the road and have no neutral....
6th gear gone??

Had it towed to a shop, 50 miles from where it crapped out.

Had a used trans installed at "Diesel Unlimited" in Alabaster, AL....

Great experience with the shop, and they had me on the road the next Day!

Paid a quarter of the cost of the truck to get it fixed, but thus is the game of away from home repairs.....

Were the other available gears usable/driveable?

Our VW TDI recently lost 5th gear. I was able to access the gears without removing the trans and replace them along with the selector gear and synchros for about $400

No.. The trans was locked up... Could not even let the clutch out in "neutral"..

Also found the 4wd selector servo was bad and they theorize it self selected 4hi(doing 70mph on interstate) and assisted in the destruction. I'll have to replace that, as I couldn't pay another dime at the time..

It was so hot and burping fluid out the shifter hole... Just bad....
