Going Back to Alaska!!!

I have one of those fancy Kenmore infrared stoves with the glass top on it. Well, this morning I was cooking breakfast and I the pan slipped out of my hand and shattered the glass. I figured no big deal, I'll just call Sears and get on UPS'd to me. I called those jokers up and they want $445. 00 for that piece of glass. I could get a different stove for that, but the landlords are the ones who put this one in and I take it they must like it or something. Anybody have any ideas of where I might be able to find a replacement for less money???

Bummer, maybe the stove junkyard? If you got the price from Sears you can most likely do better elsewhere. All of Sears appliances are made by others, exact duplicates with different names on them. Check around some place other than Sears. I broke the glass tray in my microwave a couple of years ago, $80 for a new one. My daughter found the exact same tray in a thrift store a month later for $2. At least I have an extra now.

Do you have a Reliable Parts store near you? They were my source for appliance parts when I lived in the Seattle area. They only sell parts, but know of sources for used parts and usually know more on service than the appliance store techs.

Every city has at least one indepenent appliance parts house and they sell parts for almost every major appliance, look in your yellow pages. Also, there are lots of parts houses online, do a google search and see what you can find.

Talk to your landlord and let him know what happened, maybe he has insurance, and if not, maybe he will let you buy a new appliance for the same $.

I've looked online at a few appliance sites, but no luck so far. I think I'll try calling around Portland tomorrow, and talk to a guy I know that runs a furniture/appliance store. He doesn't sell Sears brand stuff, but hopefully he can point me in the right direction.

Almost all the stuff Sears sells under the Kenmore name is made by Whirlpool. I would try the local appliance parts store or go to a reputable Whirlpool dealer.
