On a quick 2nd to 3rd shift I lost 3rd and 4th gear. It still has 1st, 2nd and 5th. With the top off the transmission and manually putting it in 3rd and 4th evrything in the transmission turns fine but still not getting to the driveshaft. My best guess is that I broke the main shaft. Where to get a used shaft? I did this 2 days after an engine rebuild with a #10 plate, non wastgated housing, governer, afc and valve springs. tnx Tony

You need to quit drinking so much coffee, :D :D

I have found a few sites, i'll look them up and see if they have any 5spds.

do you want a complete transmission or just parts?

Don't get the stock shaft, get the aftermarket one that is fully splined for 5th gear. If the gear isn't a press fit, replace it to. This will eliminate the 5th gear nut comming loose on you later.

I don't know the source, any body else know? Try a search.

These guys are great nad will help over the phone. They know this transmission better that Dodge or NV does.

You will be very happy with Standard Transmission & Gear. They have the best fix for the 5th gearnut problem (new shaft). I know the owner, Mike Patton, personally. He is a good guy and will treat you right.

Standard Transmission

I just dropped in a new transmission and clutch (and repaired a leaking rear main seal). Got replacement transmission shiiped from Std Trans before I pulled the old one ($400 core charge) + transmission. They truck freighted it to me in Rhode Island in 5 days. they pay freight 1 way, you pay other (about $150). They were exclt to work with, sell all the parts you would need (Castrol, Clutch, and guide (old input shaft if you need it)). BTW my old transmission seemed pressurized for some Da***d reason and blew oil thru front seal and out breather (level up to a quart low). They rebuild only with full splined main shaft (which was on my to do list). Good luck!

It's not likely that the mainshft is what broke. More likely the 3-4 synchro assembly or shift fork. Std Trans has the parts at good prices. By the way, I have a mint stock mainshaft and 5th gear (a takeoff from a trans that got the full splined Std. Trans. setup) if someone needs it.
