I bought new headlight housings for the truck due to water getting into the lens. The left side was nearly impossible to remove and install because of the bumper cover being in the way. I removed the top bumper cover and found that many of the cover retainers were broken. These retainers appeared to be secured with some type of heat process or glue, and could not be repaired or replaced. Not wanting to buy a new cover at $189, I measured the bumper retainer openings, bought 3/8"x 1 1\4" zinc plated carriage bolts, washers and nuts. I removed all the old retainers by prying them off, drilled a 3\8" clearance hole at the center of the old retainer surfaces and bolted the bumper cover on. It turned out pretty good I think. The only problem was when I pulled the bolts down, the bumper sunk in a little at the carriage bolt heads, but if you clipped the ends of the orginal retainers and glued them back on, that would make up the distance and provide a correct depth of shim for the cover. My truck now has a studded belt :) The bolts may rust at some point, but the zinc coating should keep that from happening for a while.
Just thought I would share..
